What is Meta Data?

Meta tags are used in the html of page to provide information about the page. Meta data isn’t displayed on your website to users but can be read by search engines and web crawlers.

The two most simple meta tags are meta title and meta description. You can use Yoast SEO plugin to easily add these to your pages and posts.

There are a lot more meta tags that can be added to your website – such as robots no index to stop bots crawling specific pages, social meta tags to show what to display when sharing a post to your social media profiles and meta content type.
