What is Black Hat SEO?
The term black hat SEO refers to a set of tactics and strategies that violate a the search engines terms of service. These tactics are considered unethical and can result in your website getting penalised or even banned from search engines.
Black Hat SEO Tactics
To stay above board with Google and other search engines, the following black hat tactics should not be considered:
- Automated Content
- Hidden Text or Links
- Keyword Stuffing
- Link Schemes (buying links is common but be careful – if these aren’t grown organically you may fall from the rankings)
- Guest Posting Networks (Guest posting itself isn’t considered black hat – but getting an SEO to do this for you often results in weak and unrelated content being linked to your website)
- Creating pages, subdomains or domains with duplicate content (if you are not offering anything unique to a user it will likely not be ranked and cause the original source to drop in rankings)
- Data Markup Spam
